A lake exerts an irresistible charm. Like the lake of Bütgenbach, where every summer becomes a holiday.
On this morning the north wind drives away the last fog patches still hanging over the lake. That means: Today the weather will be nice! From the Worriken leisure center, the route follows the RAVeL path towards the reservoir. An engineering structure 23 m deep, 140 m long, and holding 11 million cubic meters of water. On the opposite lakeshore, the model walking path is worth the visit; it sometimes moves away from the shore and sparks our desire for an improvised picnic.
Along the way, you can feast your eyes on the diverse panorama: small lake bays and side arms, as well as meadows that lie within the Holzwarche nature reserve, where typical alpine plants such as fennel and black knapweed thrive. When the blue sky reflects in the lake, the landscape is bathed in unique light. Wet areas and small streams can be crossed on paved footbridges. Eighty years after the construction of the artificial lake, nature is reclaiming its share.
