Description
On the way to the Eupen reservoir, not far from the city center, landscapes reminiscent of the far north of Canada appear.
As soon as you turn your back on Eupen, you are surrounded by forest in furious autumn colors. The wide hiking trail runs along the Weser, which feeds the Eupen Lake upstream. We pass through three different forests. Beech, oak, and fir trees alternately flank our path. At the dam, a staircase leads to the "Visitor Center Wesertalsperre," a restaurant with a remarkable panorama and therefore a good reason to linger and let your gaze wander.
The retention of the water volumes has carved many small bays and spikes into the hilly shores of the Hertogenwald. Yes, you really feel reminded of lake landscapes in Canada. We move away from the shore and head towards a beech forest. Around a bend, a house appears that, in its seclusion, also seems remote. Further down, the path is firm again and paved with pebbles. We return to Eupen, a city situated amid valuable nature.
