This varied hike takes you through the Hertogenwald near Eupen. On a narrow path you follow the Hill, a small brook that originates near Botrange, the highest point in Belgium, and flows into the Weser in the lower town of Eupen. You walk over tree roots and rocks along the brook's shore. Here you can play the lava game (see tip) or observe the life at the brook and count animals that live here. The ground in this area consists of a very special type of humus, peat. This colors the brook's water brown.
As soon as you leave the brook's course, you enter the forests of the region, a mix of deciduous and coniferous forests. Here you can keep an eye out for strangely shaped sticks. There are plenty of them. You will also find many blueberry bushes. You can pick blueberries in July. Soon you will reach the Binsterkanzel. This is the place where you find many moss-covered stones. In some places, the moss is so long that it resembles hairstyles. Finally, you return to the starting point over an alley framed by meadows.
