Description
Not far from the German border lies a rather unknown area with gentle slopes and elegant houses.
The village of Hauset lies behind as the path turns into the beech grove, a model-protected forest area and one of Aachen's green lungs nearby. Nevertheless, the forest has preserved a pristine condition that at the slightest sound in the undergrowth or bushes suggests that a squirrel or a hedgehog is rustling in the leaves there.
When leaving the forest, we walk past the stubble of a wheat field, down to Fossei and to the source brook of the Göhl. The route runs under the famous Hammer Bridge.
After the steep ascents and valley dips, the landscape shows a new variation: divided by fences and hedges, built with neat houses and stud farms, horses have become native in Hauset. Along small paths, we make a loop around the pond and admire the view, with which our hike through this authentic East Belgian village ends.
