Description

The High Fens evoke images of the distant far north, of tundra and heathland.

After the sun-protected terrace and the appetizing smells from the inn at Haus Ternell, we set off into the valley of the Hill. The wide path turns into an unpaved, steep trail at the edge of the Hertogenwald. From far below comes the roar of the Hill, but the birdsong cannot be drowned out. The Hill has a reputation for being untamable. Although it appears gentle and yielding at its banks, in its course it rushes wildly and unleashed into the valley. Uphill, we gladly make use of handrails.

At the forest edge appears the Herzogenhügel Bridge, over which we reach the plateau. A place where the forest seems to shield from the outside world, as a deep silence spreads here. Over the long slope we return to the Brackvenn, a lesser known but no less charming moorland. Between tall grasses we reach Rotenbüchel, where the Getzbach springs and its black water crosses the landscape.

For experienced hikers. The route along the Hill is breathtaking but includes difficult sections.

Dogs are not allowed on this hike.

High hiking boots. Bring water. Opportunity for refreshment at Haus Ternell.
