Description
You have to see the Our valley from above to discover one of Belgium's most dazzling natural landscapes: the Eifel.
The hike begins at the former railway line L47 (now part of the beautiful RAVeL hiking and cycling network), a remnant from the time when Burg-Reuland was directly connected to Berlin. We follow the Our, the only river flowing from north to south in Belgium. On the opposite bank lies Steffeshausen. The house facades stand out bright white against the azure blue sky. Nothing clouds the pure clear air as we hike up to the hilltop to fully enjoy the view.
Before the banks of the Irmisch come into sight, the panorama narrows. In the valley meadows and wetlands below, stilt birds such as the heron are at home. On the bank of the Our, we choose a new path uphill. Surrounded by the scent of meadow and field flowers, we reach the ridge where, as if out of nowhere, an unusual hiking hut appears. Finally, the path goes steeply and quickly down to Burg-Reuland.
