The hiking trail leads directly past the venerable castle ruin towards Bracht, a typical small village with about 100 inhabitants. In the rather high-lying village of Maspelt, hikers can enjoy some great views over the Our and Ulft valleys. The next stop is Neidingen, where several lovingly renovated old Eifel farms can be seen, as well as Wiesenbach with its unique St. Bartholomew's Chapel. Via the Ravel cycling path and the Prümerberg, you reach the destination of St. Vith.

The castle ruin in Burg Reuland is definitely worth a visit.

    Roadbook

BURG-REULAND - Today we start at the church of Reuland and take the path upwards to the castle. The white-red hiking markers guide us up to the castle today and will accompany us all the way to the destination in Sankt Vith. Leaving the castle courtyard, we continue straight ahead to the next junction, turn right there and also at the next corner continue right downhill into the valley.

Caution: At this point, the paths of the GR5 and GR56 separate again.

While the GR5 turns left, we stay on the GR56 and continue downhill. At the next corner, shortly after passing a Marian altar, we turn sharply left into a narrow street. This now leads us uphill again out of Burg-Reuland. On our left, we see the school and also the ViDo - Culture and Meeting Center of the German-speaking Community. The street soon takes us through lush green pastureland to Bracht, the next village. At the entrance to the village, the road splits. We take the left path and now pass Castle Bracht - a beautiful old manor house - built in 1782.

    1.9 km  BRACHT

We hike on the country road towards Maspelt - the next village. It goes quite steeply uphill and we are happy to find a nice shelter at a crossroads. From here at the shelter, you enjoy a great view. We continue straight up the country road and reach (shortly after the cemetery) the first houses of Maspelt.

    1.9 km MASPELT

We pass by the village church with an unusual church tower. Here we walk around the church in a bend towards Lommersweiler. Before the village exit sign, we leave the road and turn left into an alley. Shortly after, the path forks and we keep right. This alley takes us steeply downhill until we reach a country road in the valley, which we cross carefully. We are in the Hasselbach valley and now have to cross the Hasselbach stream. At low water, you can walk through the stream, but if it carries more water, you can go dry-footed along the fence on the left side to the other side.

The alley now goes up again towards the north. After leaving the forest, we continue along a meadow path. The path then bends right and after about 100 meters, we return left to our original direction southwards. The almost level alley we follow here is lined on both sides with birch trees.

At its end, we cross a narrow paved road (which comes at a sharp angle from the left). We continue opposite. It is a narrow path that takes us through broom bushes down into the valley. We cross the narrow road once more and when we arrive in the valley, we meet the same road again. We follow the road and soon reach the first houses of Neidingen. The small village is soon passed through and shortly before the pretty village church, we cross the Braunlauf. The small brook is a tributary of the Our, we have already crossed the Braunlauf near Steinebrück.

    3.1 km  NEIDINGEN

After the church, it goes slightly uphill and at the next square, we keep left and take the narrow village street to the left. This street leads us again over the Braunlauf and takes us to the end of the village. Once more, we cross the brook and walk along the edge of the forest towards the A27 motorway (Verviers - Prüm). We see in front of us the mighty highway viaduct, whose pillars stand in a small lake. After we have walked under the highway bridge, we reach the country road N646. We keep our direction and are now in Wiesenbach.

    1.8 km WIESENBACH

We have to turn off the road and walk a short distance on the RAVEL path. After the campsite, we turn sharply right and pass by the Wiesenbach outdoor swimming pool. Certainly interesting is also the Saint Bartholomew Chapel (see above).

Behind the restaurant "Zur alten Mühle" at the pool, the path goes first left and shortly after we leave the RAVEL and climb steeply to the right. Soon the path becomes wider again and is no longer so steep.

We come to the little moss hut, a nice resting place. We continue along a wide path, cross a street, and continue opposite. There, where the first houses appear on the left and you have a view of Sankt Vith lying in the valley, the path now turns right into a narrow path through the forest. Soon we meet a road again - on the left, we see a Marian altar and opposite a monument. The memorial was erected in memory of the American soldiers who defended Sankt Vith in December 1944.

    2.7 km FAHRFELD (Monument)

Here at the Marian chapel, we turn left into the wide forest path. We are on the Prümer Berg. After leaving the forest, shortly after, we reach the country road N626. We cross the road and go opposite into the Walleroder Weg.

At the next junction, we keep our direction and continue straight ahead. The path then bends left and we now go downhill towards Sankt Vith. We stay on Walleroder Weg until we reach first the RAVEL and shortly afterwards a large roundabout in the valley below. We circle it clockwise (always use the zebra crossings) and leave it at the third street - Aachener Straße - a distinctive sign here is a gray tower with a red cross. From here, we take the "Old Aachener Straße" and slowly climb towards the center. Via Aachener Straße, we now reach the center of Sankt Vith at the next large roundabout.
