Description
Outside the urban area of St. Vith, you cycle 90% through the Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park. This means quiet roads, lots of forest along the way, and above all the beautiful Ourtal on the border with the German Eifel.
The first 10 km go steadily uphill to Meyerode. Then you descend into the Our valley, where you will get to know Schönberg. After an idyllic 5 km stretch above the Our, the river shows its most beautiful side before the village of Setz. Let your eyes wander over the wide valley. The flat course here in the valley allows you to look into the distance.
In Steinebrück, the 80-meter-high E42 Verviers-Prüm motorway viaduct spans the Our valley. This imposing structure makes the valley appear even larger. Then you take the Vennbahn cycle path towards Sankt Vith. You pass the (former) station of Lommersweiler and go through a tunnel. The former railway line (Vennbahn) was built in the valley of the Braunlauf, but the cycle path runs from Neidingen along an ordinary road. In Wiesenbach, you return to the original railway track and cycle relaxed into the town of Sankt Vith.
Tip: Wiesenbach: the Saint Bartholomew's Chapel, a former hermitage from 1800. Here you walk among ancient lindens, weathered grave crosses, and an overgrown ring wall.
