East Belgium shines in the Michelin Guide 2026
The Michelin stars for Belgium and Luxembourg were awarded in Antwerp in early May. It was announced that the two starred restaurants from St. Vith, Hotel Zur Post with head chef Eric Pankert and Quadras by Ricarda Grommes, both successfully defended their stars.
The two establishments could hardly be more different — and that's exactly what makes them so special.
Eric Pankert (Hotel Zur Post) draws on a classic foundation and extensive expertise, complemented by a subtle Asian touch. The result: a cuisine that's familiar and surprising in equal measure. For his Hotel Zur Post, this year's star comes with a special anniversary attached. The restaurant received its first Michelin star back in 1976: exactly 50 years ago. It has carried on that tradition ever since and remains a flagship of East Belgian gastronomy.
Ricarda Grommes (Quadras) moves effortlessly between French tradition and eastern precision, working with regional produce as well as exotic ingredients that take on a rare elegance in her kitchen.
The fact that two East Belgian restaurants attract the attention of Michelin's exacting inspectors year after year speaks volumes. Gastronomy is a labour of love in East Belgium. Regionality, seasonality and respect for the produce run through local cuisine like a common thread, from starred kitchens to the cosy inn round the corner. So it's little wonder that several other restaurants from the region also feature as recommendations in the Guide Michelin.
