Description

Characteristic of the land around St. Vith are the open landscapes and wide agricultural areas. The only forest area you pass through is the Emmelserwald, which runs close to the border of the Walloon region.

You cycle the first 10 km on the Vennbahn towards Waimes. Beyond the bushes, there are deeper lying and protected wetlands along the former railway line, which you cross before leaving the Vennbahn towards Recht. Behind the village awaits a sprawling forest, the Emmelserwald. The route goes uphill.

At an altitude of 580 m, at the southern edge of the area, you come across a café that, due to its extraordinary decoration made of countless beer bottles from around the world, is also called a beer museum. It belongs to the village of Rodt, which you shortly pass through on your way to Neundorf, a suburb of St. Vith. The snow-white village church of Neundorf and the high railway viaduct visually define this place.

Tip: Recht slate mine. It is located near Kn 56. Until 1908, the famous blue slate was mined here. Guided tours through the 800 m long tunnel are possible from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on Mondays).
