On the way to Manderfeld and further to Schönberg, the dense greenery is repeatedly interrupted by clearings. The numerous secluded valleys give the feeling of being much further away than is actually the case. And again and again it is the clear streams that meander through this dreamlike landscape, which seem so untouched that you might think you yourself have just discovered this patch of earth.

    LOSHEIMERGRABEN

The hotel is located at junction 77. We follow the direction from KP69 and cross the N632 towards Büllingen until, after about 100 meters at the end of the sidewalk, we turn left back onto the forest path. Here we go left downwards (towards KN 68) until we soon meet the white-red hiking signs of the GR56 again. We stay on the main path and now cross a bridge over the Warche. Shortly afterwards, we continue straight ahead, this time under the railway viaduct (KN68). Behind it, the narrow road rises slightly until after about 150 meters we reach the main road that leads through Buchholz.

    > 2.5 Km BUCHHOLZ

Here we turn left and walk along the road to the former Hotel Waldfriede. Opposite the hotel we turn right and are on the forest path into the valley of the Frankenbach. It is a very beautiful valley through which we now hike almost 3 kilometers downhill. Where a narrow asphalted path comes from the left to our path, we must leave the valley. A few meters further is the bridge over the Frankenbach.

But even before we reach the bridge that crosses the Frankenbach, we must now turn left and hike steeply uphill on a forest path. Where we emerge from the forest at the top, there is a large cleared open area. We climb a bit further uphill, then walk along a pasture fence until our path becomes a field path again. At the top, we turn right again for a few meters to soon follow the lane to the left again. As we are used to here in the Eifel, it soon goes back down into the valley. In the hollow of the valley, a bridge takes us over the Dehnenbach and behind it we climb up again to the next hill. At the end of the lane, we reach the road at the outskirts of Hasenvenn, a small hamlet belonging to Manderfeld. There, on the main road, we keep right and continue to the next intersection.

    > 7.3 Km MANDERFELD

Where the N 626 continues in a wide curve to the left, we first continue a bit to the right towards Igelmonderhof and Holzheim. But after just a few meters, we leave this road again and turn left. The narrow road we have turned into now rises slowly and soon becomes a field path that takes us into the forest. There, where in front of a forest hut a wayside shrine (in the shape of a small tower) stands, we continue straight and take a forest path opposite. Here it now goes quite steeply downhill until we meet the Medemderbach below. On the left beside the ford is a stable bridge that lets us cross the stream dry-footed. At the next junction, we keep left and follow the valley. At a lonely farmhouse we go straight on over the crossroads. Our path now leaves the valley and, after a short but steep climb, we reach the first houses of the small village of Eimerscheid.

    > 3.8 Km EIMERSCHEID

We follow the GR hiking signs to the left through the village. At the first junction, we turn right (to houses 57 - 71). At a stone cross (with colorful ceramics) in honor of Saint Hubertus, we continue right and pass the "Hansen Hof" from 1792. Behind Hansen Hof, it goes slightly uphill along a lane. We soon encounter a path coming from the right. We follow this for another 100 meters. Then we turn sharply left and follow a grass-covered path. We stay on this path that now leads us down into the valley. We cross a small brook, the Kolvenderbach, whose valley is a small nature reserve. After about 100 meters, we reach the Herresbacher Mill, a former watermill. Here we turn left into the narrow road and walk uphill until we reach the main road at the top, which leads down to Schönberg. We have to cross this road and continue straight through Herresbach, another lovely small Eifel village. Shortly before reaching the church, we see a small chapel on the right built entirely from old tree roots.

    > 3.5 Km HERRESBACH

We walk a short stretch along the village road past the church and take the next left turn. The road first leads us past the cemetery and then descends into the valley of the Großweberbach. Down here, we walk left always further downhill and always stay near the stream. This beautiful valley is also protected. After passing the “Waldecho” campsite at the valley’s end, we now reach the outskirts of Schönberg and meet the main road N626. We now follow this for a short distance to the left until we cross the Our river via a bridge and reach the church in Schönberg.

    > 4.8 Km SCHÖNBERG

End of the stage in Schönberg.
