The watercourses of the Our and Ulf characterise the landscape around the mediaeval village of Burg-Reuland. Whilst the Ulf meanders through Belgium from west to east and flows into the Our, the Our flows from north to south and marks the borders of Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium over long distances.
With its idyllic landscape, the region attracts many hikers and cyclists. On the Ravel hiking and cycle path from Oudler to Auel, the Ulf valley can be explored away from the roads. On the way, you go past the castle ruins in the centre of Burg-Reuland. Shortly after that, the cycle path swings round into the Our valley, where it runs along the Our and continues, traffic-free.
Apart from some magnificent panoramic views, the Our valley has some lively villages and farms in picturesque settings to offer. The river winds its way through the countryside, featuring rambling meadow landscapes in some places and narrow valley passages with steep rock faces in others. Rare plants and animals such as the orchid, the black stork and the wildcat have all found a refuge here. Many mills line the banks of the little river, which served as a traffic and trade route in former times. Other witnesses of that time are the churches, whose former function as fortified churches can still be seen here and there today.
