After just a few hundred meters we enter the Venn area. In front of us lies the wonderful and still pristine Fraineu-Venn. Thanks to the LIFE project, more than 300 hectares of heath and moorland areas have been freed from spruce plantations elsewhere, and the open spaces have been visibly expanded again. In these moor-containing heathlands springs the Trôs-Maret, a true mountain stream.
It will be our constant companion on this hike. After some wooden footbridges we come to the remains of the "Cabane du Négus". Here lived a hermit in the years around 1950. We leave the heath areas and enter the forest to the "Six Hêtres" (6 beeches), a place where shepherds used to rest in earlier times. Another remarkable place is the wetland of the "Chôdires", stocked with birches, alders and trembling aspens. A little further the wild foaming Trôs-Maret bubbles beside us, enhancing the wild character of this beautiful hike.
