Family-friendly circular route that provides an overview of 50 native birds. The bird portraits were created and drawn by 10- to 12-year-old children from the community. They are placed where you might be lucky enough to observe these birds. The bird education trail partly leads through the village, partly through meadows and forests, as well as along the brook, so you can find the appropriate birds for each landscape. The path is marked with bird silhouettes and you always follow the beak.

    Roadbook

The start of the bird education trail is at Café Müller opposite the church. 50 m below the café, you go through a path between two houses that you follow to the end. Then you turn left and follow the street to the second intersection, where you turn right. Here many beech hedges accompany you. Then you take the first street to the right and leave the village. The path leads you to the edge of the forest, where you turn left. You follow this forest path to the rest area (here there is a barrel converted into a seating option). There you turn left again and approach the village of Hepscheid.

At the first street to the right there is the possibility to extend the route by 4 km. This stretch is marked with V+ and leads through a charming landscape; however, you definitely need sturdy footwear here.

The V+ extension rejoins the bird education trail a few meters further at the chapel, which leads out of the village and crosses the main road. After 200 m you turn left into a field path and at the end of this path reach Heppenbach again. You follow the street to the main road where you keep right. After 150 m, you turn right again and circle the church, so you arrive back at the starting point.
