The walk begins with an initial climb along forest tracks, then crosses a bridge over the River Rur before beginning a second ascent to the highest point on the route.

The terrain then becomes relatively flat until you reach "Kreuz im Venn" - Cross in the Fens, a place of pilgrimage where you can walk around. The return to Küchelscheid and the Leykaul car park is via the German exclave "Ruitzhof".
