A botanical highlight of our region is the zinc violet. This delicate yellow violet is a true rarity, as it can only grow on soils rich in heavy metals and thus belongs to what is known as the calamine flora. The rare violet is strictly protected and must not be picked or dug up. The zinc violet blooms from May to July, amongst other places in the state forest of the Hohnbach valley and near the Casino pond, a rare wildflower that is typical of our zinc-rich soils and the emblem of our municipality.
This longer walk is dedicated to the mining heritage of the Vieille Montagne and its unique landscapes. It passes through nature reserves and meadows where the zinc violet is particularly easy to spot.
