10,000 eggs, 30 kilos of bacon, 6 kilos of spices, 3 kilos of sliced garlic, and 50 litres of oil: mix everything vigorously and pour into a giant frying pan, let it cook, and enjoy together the giant omelette of Malmedy together.

Every year on August 15, thousands of people flock to Malmedy to witness a unique spectacle in Belgium: the preparation of a gigantic omelette cooked by the Confrérie de l’Omelette Géante in an enormous 4-meter-diameter pan.

As it is the Feast of the Assumption, the Brotherhood begins by attending mass, during which the priest blesses the eggs and bread. Representatives from six other Omelette Brotherhoods from around the world then join the procession through the town to the location where the giant pan is set up for the occasion.

Dressed in white and armed with 2-meter-long wooden spoons, they carefully monitor the cooking of the omelette. It is then distributed free of charge to all spectators. The day continues with plenty of musical entertainment and other activities, games for children and adults, barbecued meats, a contest, and an open-air dance.

Let yourself be charmed by Malmedy and come enjoy a unique experience with friends or family, including the kids.
