Booking request

At the confluence of the Warche and the Warchenne, in the bottom of a valley, lies the lively town of Malmedy. Innumerable signposted hiking trails and cycle paths and a full event calendar make this 'gateway to the High Fens' a real tourist magnet. The urban image is marked by the architectural heritage of the cloth and leather industry from the 18th century. Bridges, small chapels, grand buildings, a former monastery and the Peter-and-Paul Cathedral bear witness to what a jewel full of history this is.

Day 1: Warchenne – Arimont (8 or 10 km)

This hike starts at the 'Place Albert 1er' at the High Fens House for Tourism – Eastbelgium. You follow the Warche going upstream and come to the hiking trail 'Promenade du Centenaire'. Along the old railway line you arrive at the holiday village "Val d’Arimont", which lies idyllically ensconced in a forest landscape at the foot of the village of Arimont. The hike (10 km) then goes up to Géromont and the 'Chemin des Poumreux' before coming back down to the starting point in Malmedy.

Day 2: Ligneuville and its hiking trails (17 km)

Follow the yellow crosses. The route goes up to the hills at the hamlet of Floriheid. This is a very nice walk through meadows and woods. Cross the village of Pont and arrive at the foot of the Amel in Ligneuville. Then on to Hédomont, and from Floriheid you can enjoy various magnificent views out over Malmedy.

Day 3: Hills and Warche (19 km)

On the third day, there is a challenging hike with some more major ascents on the programme. Starting from the House for Tourism in Malmedy (Place Albert 1er), the route goes up to the calvary hill via a gravel path. The path winds its way through the landscape and runs along a ridgeway which offers some magnificent views out over the town. Following the GR signs, you continue past the holiday village of Chôdes. After that, you walk back downhill past meadows and woods to the river bed of the Warche. Going upstream, you arrive at the impressive castle of Reinhardstein via a walkway. After another steep climb of about 1 km, the path goes downstream past a quarry and a campsite (where refreshments are available). Once again, you go through the village of Chôdes. Then, taking the steep steps of the calvary hill, you come back to the starting point.
