At the highest point in Belgium

The municipality of Waimes

Rest and relaxation at the highest point in Belgium, back to the Middle Ages, cycling and mountainbike tours, hiking and exceptional winter sport activities

The heart of the “crown jewels” High Fens Nature Park is entered via the Nature Park Centre of Botrange. Guided natural history tours here or on the “roof of Belgium” (Signal de Botrange) at 694 metres above sea level in the municipality of Waimes are second to none. There you will find the best starting points for walking in the Fens, for instance with a hiking guide.

The selected fen experts point out rare plants to the hikers, cottongrass blossoms and Erica, layers of peat and special features of this natural oasis such as moor holes and acidic pools with typical iron bacteria in the colours of the rainbow. A further paradise for hikers is the Warche valley in which the mystical Reinhardstein Castle is situated. You feel transported back into the Middle Ages. The property rises to a height of around 60 metres on a rock above the Warche. Robertville Lake, close by, is particularly appealing to water sports enthusiasts and anglers.

At the junction of the former railway line, the village of Waimes offers various routes on newly laid out and converted cycle paths towards Malmedy and Stavelot, St. Vith and Prüm, and Bütgenbach and Monschau. The altitude of the village means that skiing fans will find outstanding snow conditions here in the winter, for cross-country or even alpine skiing. In Waimes, nature presents itself in a stunning white cloak.
