A demanding race on a steep slope – the 100-metre challenge

Tearing up to the top at full speed is the motto of this unique off-road sport event which attracts people from near and far each year in September. The battle for every single metre of elevation makes the cut between winners and losers.

The course, excellently prepared for a steep slope race, is in the former quarry at Andler near Schönberg. It's the only one of its kind in Belgium, and although it's only 100 metres long, it could hardly be more difficult. Every year, amateurs and pros alike meet their match again at the Schönberg hill climb.

It starts with a steep approach, which leads into cliff at the 80-metre mark. After that that it gets even more extreme, even steeper, and above all it gets stony. The three best results from four runs are added together. Spectacular tumbles are simply bound to happen. Just how demanding this course is is illustrated by the fact that up to now only very few riders have actually made it all the way to the top.

This extraordinary event was held for the first time in 2000 and meanwhile attracts participants and spectators from all over Europe. In 2015 the organisers extended the programme by adding a night race. The event is rounded off with concerts in the evening. An absolute must for motor sport fans.
